Google starts mobile network

C’mon, Google, don’t you know enough about everyone already?

It doesn’t bode well for competition, either.  Still:

Once you're connected, we help secure your data through encryption.

That’s just for their wifi hotspots, though.  They’re renting space on Sprint and T-Mobile for mobile comms.  And that “help” is a bit weird.

Your data is secured through encryption when we connect you to open Wi-Fi hotspots. It's like your data has a private tunnel to drive through. (http://fi.google.com/about/network/)

They don’t say whether Google itself (and therefore the many and various authorities) can decrypt that data.
